The moderator role is nearly identical to the admin role, with very little difference. First, adding and removing moderators uses a different console command. Moderators also do not have the ability to add and remove other admins or moderators but can use all server commands and user interface controls available when pressing the F1 key.
Here are 3 options for adding moderators to your RUST server:
- Using the in-game console
- Using a 3rd party RCON tool
- Manually updating the server’s user.cfg file
Add RUST moderators using the in-game console
There are 3 requirements for using the in-game console
- You must be in the game and connected to the RUST server
- You must already have auth level 2 (admin) status
- You must have the user’s 64-bit Steam ID
In order to add a RUST moderator using the in-game console
- Open the in-game console by pressing F1 on your keyboard
- Then type into the console the following command in and press enter
moderatorid '64bit_steamid_here' - Then follow up with this command to save the server’s user.cfg file
server.writecfg - If the user is online during this process, they must reconnect before their moderator abilities are available. A quick kick can help speed up the process!
Add RUST moderators using a 3rd party RCON tool
There are 3 requirements for using a 3rd party RCON tool
- Your server must have enabled RCON
- You must have access to the RCON command line
- You must have the user’s 64-bit Steam ID
In order to add a RUST moderator using a 3rd party RCON tool
- Open and login to the RCON tool
- Navigate to the RCON tool’s command line
- Then type into the console the following command in and press enter
moderatorid '64bit_steamid_here' - Then follow up with the following command to save the server’s user.cfg file
server.writecfg - If the user is online during this process, they must reconnect before their moderator abilities are available. A quick kick can help speed up the process!
Add RUST moderators using the server’s user.cfg file
There are 2 requirements for using the server’s user.cfg file
- Your RUST server must not be running, as the file will be locked and in use
- You must have access to the server’s file system, whether through SSH, FTP or a web portal
In order to add a RUST moderator using the server’s user.cfg file
- Connect to your server’s file system in your preferred method.
- Locate the
users.cfgfile, found in/server/<your_servers_identity>/cfg/ - Open the file and add a new line item containing the following
moderatorid '64bit_steamid_here' 'optional_name' 'optional_reason' - Save the file and restart your server

Regardless of how you wish to add RUST moderators, there are a plethora of ways in which to do so. Many methods require using the user’s 64-bit SteamID, which is easily obtainable using https://steamid.io.

🔷 Outpost Safezone is at the top of the skyscraper in C2. You can teleport to it with /outpost. If you sleep there you will die.
🔷 Casino Safezone is in F4. It has Blackjack, Gambling Wheel, Recyclers, Vending Machines and more. Do not enter it if you have the red hostile icon in top right of screen.
🔷 Casino and Skyscraper Outpost sells Heavy Scientist Suits for 400 scrap. They have 40% protection. Guns are also for sale.
🔷 Area 51 monument in E1. It's an underground facility with scientists. Fuse, green, blue and red card to complete.
🔷 Use /vabuy to purchase a supply signal for a Minicopter with lowgrade or a car loaded with car parts and lowgrade.
🔷 8x/16x Scopes are removed. Only spacesuits can be worn.

The Purge occurs 1 hour before each wipe. Everyone on the server can claim a kit every 5 minutes that gives them an LR300, M249, Grenade Launcher, HE Grenades and Meds. This is our fun way of finishing off the wipe.
